What should I carry?

I have been asked a few times by some friends and family about what firearm they should have at home or carry if they chose to do so.  I usually don’t give that kind of advice because there are so many factors, primary being personal preference.  Choose something that you are comfortable with.  Don’t listen to people that say you need this gun or this caliber etc.  Yes, listen to advice and do your homework.  Find that item that fits your hand, your lifestyle, your budget…all of that matters.  Don’t be a sheep and get what everyone else has.  There are so many quality choices out there they are too numerous to list.  Also be aware that there is a lot of junk out there.  Don’t settle for some cheap POS.  At the end of the day, you will make a good choice.  The most important thing to remember is that you need to become familiar and proficient with your firearm(s).  Learn firearm safety.  Take a safety course if you can.  It is a tool not a toy; and like any other tool it will not jump up and do the work for you.  Try it out, practice with it, maintain (clean) it.  After a while having it will become second nature.
